Micky van de Ven Brace Ends The Toffees' Run at Brand New Stadium

Micky van de Ven scored twice as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit six points clear of the drop zone.

Following a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere two shots on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his second in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, combining effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo handled excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing striker's instinct

The club's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have worn off slightly and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted only one league goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to add to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

The striker's form was epitomized when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
