Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.
An important representative commented the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
